Even though the procedure has been around since the thought of economic specialization and work delegation appeared hundreds of years ago, the phrase ‘outsourcing’ has not been used until the 1980s.  The idea only denotes the process of contracting the goods and/or hiring the services of a different firm to conduct particular activities or aspects of business.  Therefore, these organizations are commonly known as third-party or service providers.

More spin-offs of the outsourcing solution are the Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO) and Business Transformation Outsourcing (BTO).  The former showcases procedures that need higher skills and abilities for instance research and development, quality assurance, and legal functions; while the latter involves service providers that play a portion in creating more dynamic and flexible projects for the business.

Many more have been in existence in the past but are being brought back to life due to the outsourcing boom, such as Software R&D to build and enhance computer programs, and Marketing Outsourcing ex. advertising agencies to showcase the corporation’s image.

The location of the service provider can be used to classify outsourcing. When the contractor operates in its client’s own country, it is labeled ‘onshore.’  For those outside the client’s country, they are labeled ‘offshore’ except when it’s actually a adjoining country, it becomes ‘nearshore.’

The technique of outsourcing has plenty to do with expertise.  Outsourced functions are often those that aren’t critical or strategic to the business, such as payroll or janitorial services.  There are companies who dedicate themselves to these kinds of services so you can be certain of sufficient and skilled staff.  Additionally, outsourced workers would generally mean less costs and headache than being done in-house.
